Families and community members are invited to join us in welcoming students back to school!
Parents, family members and community members are invited to help us welcome students outside our schools before school starts on the first day of school.
- Please carpool if you can as parking is a challenge on the first few days of school.

Welcome Crew members will line up outside of the main entrances of our schools to greet students as they arrive (principals will provide guidance on where to stand!).
-
Welcome Crew members do not need to be an approved District volunteer for this one-time event.
- Welcome back signs, pom poms and noise makers are welcome and encouraged!
- Please - no pets (thank you!).
- Please arrive at school 15 minutes before the start of school (see start times below).
- Once school starts, you will be on your way to get on with the rest of your day!

Building Excitement: Progress at View Ridge and Armin Jahr!
Exciting milestones are happening every day at our two new elementary school sites! At View Ridge, the roof is complete, drywall is going up, and new playground areas are taking shape. At Armin Jahr, roof framing is almost wrapped up, and interior wall finishes begin this month as both buildings get fully enclosed with new siding and windows. Behind the scenes, district teams are already planning for furniture, technology, and classroom moves to make sure everything is ready for students and staff when we officially open our doors in early spring 2027! |

Renaissance High School to move to View Ridge building
This summer, the Bremerton School Board approved relocating Renaissance High School (RHS) to the existing View Ridge building in East Bremerton. Our Bond team has been working to explore space layouts, building options, and preliminary budget estimates to make sure this new home meets the needs of our students and staff.
This move maximizes our existing district assets and provides room for expanded future programming. It also provides substantial upgrades for RHS students and staff including:
Spacious classrooms with individual restrooms, plus a dedicated gymnasium for PE. Improved transit access Close proximity to Kitsap Regional Library & its resources
We are now in the process of hiring a design team for the project. The timeline for this project is still being finalized, but we anticipate the move will happen in 2027-28.
Once the school relocates, the old RHS portable classrooms will no longer be used or relocated by the district. They will first be offered for sale and repurposing to other school districts and organizations. If a buyer is not found, the portables will be properly removed and disposed of.

Consolidated Facilities
The Consolidated Facilities replacement project is underway! Abatement of hazardous materials began in July and is nearly complete, allowing physical demolition of the building to begin the week of August 24th. The building will be demolished from south to north, and the site development will take off following that.
The design team is working diligently with the City of Bremerton to finalize our first permit and to identify additional site requirements.
In the meantime, the Facilities and Transportation teams have relocated to enable our construction team to begin site work. Both teams are operating out of less-than-ideal circumstances and have made many sacrifices to comfort and convenience to help keep this project on track.

HVAC upgrades are on schedule!
Summer construction is moving right along across the district, and our project teams are making great progress as we prepare for the new school year!
Elementary schools: Kitsap Lake, Crownhill, and Naval Avenue are getting major HVAC and mechanical updates. New outdoor units are installed and anchored, and crews are finishing up the electrical work and protective fencing. Bremerton High School: Retrofit work on the first floor is complete, and demo work on the second and third floors is wrapping up on schedule. Next steps: Crews are testing and fine-tuning all systems, training our maintenance staff, and ensuring classrooms are ready for teachers and staff to return.
A special thank you to our hardworking custodial teams! Their close collaboration with construction crews has kept every project running smoothly and efficiently.

Carly Takata selected as Co-Director of Special Education.
Carly Takata has been selected as Bremerton School District's new Co-Director of Special Education.
Carly has served as principal of Kitsap Lake Elementary for the past five years and has been a dedicated leader committed to helping every student succeed. Prior to becoming a principal, she worked as a special education teacher, bringing valuable experience and a strong understanding of the diverse needs of our students.

BSD welcomes Amber Nygard as principal of Kitsap Lake Elementary
The Bremerton School District is excited to welcome Amber Nygard as the new principal of Kitsap Lake Elementary!
“Throughout the search process, Mrs. Nygard stood out for her deep commitment to putting people first and her proven track record of supporting students and educators alike,” said Assistant Superintendent Brittane Debard. “She brings both the expertise and the heart needed to foster a thriving, inclusive culture at Kitsap Lake Elementary.”

At the July 23rd board meeting, David McBride, OAC Services, presented the recommendation for the relocation of Renaissance High School to the former View Ridge Elementary School site. The recommendation was approved by the board.
